a cappella masterpieces - modern interpretations - intimate settings
GAUDE is a professional, a cappella chamber ensemble based in San Francisco, California. Directed by Jace Wittig (former Interim Director of the Grammy Award-winning ensemble, Chanticleer), Gaude presents a cappella masterpieces from the Renaissance and beyond in intimate settings with modern sensibility. Gaude seeks to engage the concert-going public, new listeners, and student musicians alike through unique programming and joyfully artistic performances.
Gaude is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.
"Gaude” means “Rejoice” in Latin—the most common language for Sacred Renaissance music, which forms the core of our repertoire.
Gaude's debut concerts took place in December 2015 to an overwhelmingly positive response in San Jose and San Francisco. Gaude is regularly presented by Old First Concerts and Music on the Hill in San Francisco, and was the premier professional chorus at the 2017 CASMEC Conference in San Jose. Gaude and Mr. Wittig have recently worked in educational exchange with choirs from Bakersfield (CA) and New Hampshire, and in the 2018-19 season, will make repeat appareances at Candelight Concerts at St. Mary the Virgin (San Francisco) and the concert series at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church (San Francisco). 2019 will see an educational partnership and concert with the Cantabile Youth Singers of Silicon Valley, as well as the ensemble's inaugural Artistic Residency at The Episcopal Church of St. Mary the Virgin, in San Francisco.
