Mindy Ella Chu

Mezzo-soprano Mindy Ella Chu (former member, on leave of absence) has been praised for her “expressive vigor” (SF Chronicle) and “pleasantly earthy timbre” (SF Classical Voice). Chu is a graduate of the early music voice program at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music. During her time there she performed as a chorister and soloist with the Yale Schola Cantorum in concerts around America and internationally in works such as Vivaldi’s Dixit Dominus, Palestrina’s Missa Ave Maria à 5, Bach’s St. John Passion, and Arvo Pärt’s Passio. Recent solo concert appearances include Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, the Beethoven Mass in C, John Rutter Magnificat, and Duruflé Requiem, among others. Highlighted operatic roles include Apollo in Handel’s Parnasso in Festa, Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte, 3rd spirit in Die Zauberflöte, and Tessa in The Gondoliers. Chu has been featured as soloist on BBC Radio 3, WQXR NYC, and PBS Religion & Ethics, and has performed with professional music ensembles such as American Bach Soloists, The Thirteen, Voices of Ascension, and Juilliard415.
